Hephaestus was the greek God of fire, forge and artisians. It is said that Hephaestus's parents Zeus and Hera were fighting, when he interviened they threw him from the top of Mount Olympus. It took him a full day to land. Thetis, goddess of the sea collected his pieces and again made him whole. As a result of this fall Hephaestus's feet were misformed among other malformations. It is said that Hephaestus possessed a unique zest for life and an affinity for intoxicating spirits.
For a time Hephaestus was a lover of Aphrodite. In one event Hephaestus found his brother Ares, god of war, in bed with his love. Hephaestus made bewitching chains, bound Ares and Aphrodite to the bed, then displayed them in their debauchery. Hephaetstus was greatly admired by all except Aphrodite. Later he fathered Pandora, the first mortal woman. She was sent to earth with a box of evils. In vengeance to Prometheus for having brought the gift of fire back to the world Pandora released all the evils from the box. Hope alone remained to comfort humankind.
Among being the first inventor to fly Hephaestus had other special talents. In his godly toil the objects that he made possessed magical traits. His shields and armor were impenetrable, his forged swords were ever razor sharp. As a gift to his mother Hera he made an exquisite throne. This throne shared Hephaestus's ability to fly. In his guile Hera could not remove herself from it. On another occasion Hephaestus crafted two robots one made of silver, and one made of gold. HIs three helpers were cyclopses named Lightening, Thunder and Thunderbolt
