Hephaestus Foundry and Forge

If you have never seen a bronze pour or just want to experience the process, we welcome you to our facility or call us on the phone or e-mail. There our many processes we can use. One method is the lost wax method, using a ceramic shell. This entails several steps. Basically, the sculptor and /or client presents an object for a pour which is in or will be changed to wax. We will create a negative of that wax object. To do this we use a mixture of silca sand and ceramic slurry to surround the object. We will vent and sprue a sculpture to lead metal in and let gas escape. Burning out the primary wax positive and creating a vessel into which bronze is poured. Cleaning up the sculpture and the use of patinas finalizes the piece. Of course, there are several elements in pouring a sculpture, such as; weight, height, if it is solid, and how it is configured. This illuminating craft is one of history. The ceramic molds glows from the molten metal. Once the metal cools the ceramic shell is cracked open and a sculpture is found inside.

If you’re a sculptor or some one who needs something in bronze or Aluminum, Hephaestus Foundry & Forge can help you anywhere in the process.
